BMC Sports Science, Medicine and Rehabilitation called for submissions to our Collection on Promoting Gender Equality in Sports Science.
Despite advances in gender equality, disparities in sports participation, performance, and opportunities still exist. This collection aimed to explore and promote research on gender equality in sports science and medicine, with a focus on understanding and addressing gender disparities in sports participation, injury risk and recovery, performance, and career advancement.
We welcomed original research that included, but were not limited to, the following topics:
- The effects of gender bias and stereotypes on sports participation, performance, and evaluation.
- The physiological and cultural role of gender in sports training, injury risk, and recovery.
- Gender gaps in sports participation and strategies for increasing access to sports for women and girls.
- The experiences and challenges faced by transgender and intersex athletes.
- The impacts of pregnancy and motherhood on women athletes
- The impacts of gender on career opportunities and advancement in sports sciences, such as discrimination in coach selection, resource allocation, and leadership opportunities.
- Innovative strategies for promoting gender equality in sports science, such as mentorship and empowerment programs.
Submissions should have provided novel insights into the intersection of gender and sports science with clear implications for promoting gender equality in sports.
