Nature Awards in partnership with Takeda established the Inclusive Health Research Awards to celebrate those who are driving a more inclusive approach to health research.
The Journal of Research Involvement and Engagement invites the winners and runners-up of the Nature Inclusive Health Research Awards to submit papers for this Collection focusing on inclusive community engagement and involvement in health research.
Ethically and morally, individuals, communities and groups affected by, or as intended beneficiaries of, research should have the opportunity to be involved in both prioritising research topics and shaping research. The focus of this Collection is not directly on those people participating in the research projects (sometimes called research subjects) but on members of communities and groups who are actively engaged and involved in prioritising, planning, delivering, disseminating, and implementing the research.
We are particularly keen to publish papers about the involvement of communities or groups who have been under-served in health research, hence our invitation to the winners and runners-up of the Nature competition. These under-served groups or communities are often those who are marginalised or vulnerable. Often innovative, creative, and transdisciplinary approaches are drawn upon to mitigate power imbalances and equitably involve communities and groups, especially in Lower- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). Aligning with the United Nations 2030 Agenda's promise to “Leave no one behind”, the award winners and runners-up are encouraged to describe how they have included these communities or groups in shaping or delivering their health research, expanding on the information they gave in their competition applications.
Please, note that this Collection does not accept submissions from non-invited authors.
