Giuseppe Ietto, MD, PhD, FACS, FEBS, The University of Insubria, Italy
Dr Giuseppe Ietto is Assistant Professor of Surgery and Director of the Robotic Surgery Research Center at the University of Insubria, Italy. He’s a Fellow of the European Board of Surgery in transplantation surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and Honorary Lecturer in the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle, Australia.
Born in Southern Italy, Dr Ietto initially trained in the humanities, before studying medicine in Varese. From the beginning of his surgical training, he was excited to contribute to the cause of solid organ transplantation.
Dr Ietto’s main areas of clinical research includes the implementation of novel robotic surgical techniques in the transplant field; graft perfusion studies using modern perfusion devices; and the use of fluoro-angiographic and termo-angiographic methods for graft evaluation on "back table". His basic research focuses on tumors that arise after transplantation. He considers those tumors that develop in a chimera subject, the transplanted patient, a wonderful and unique model for oncological research.
David Martin, MD, University Hospital CHUV, Switzerland
Dr David Martin is currently Senior Clinical Fellow at the University Hospital CHUV, Lausanne, Switzerland. After being certified from the Swiss Board of General Surgery in 2019, he went through different surgical specialties, mainly general surgery and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery. He is also part of the CHUV kidney transplantation group, and involved in transplants, hand-assisted laparoscopic donor nephrectomies, and multi-organ retrievals. From 2022 to 2023, he completed a 15-month fellowship in HPB and Transplant Surgery at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, UK.
Alongside his clinical training, he developed an interest in academic activities, with around sixty publications. These scientific activities have enabled him to make many oral and poster presentations at national and international congresses, allowing him to obtain several prizes and funding. The University of Lausanne (UNIL) in Switzerland awarded him the title of Privat Docent (Senior Lecturer) in 2022. He also completed a one year surgical leadership program at the Harvard Medical School, Boston, from 2023 to 2024.
Dr Martin’s special interests lie in the fields of living donor nephrectomy, kidney transplantation, multiorgan procurement, machine perfusion, perioperative medicine, and novel technologies in surgery.
