BMC Anesthesiology published this Collection on COVID‐19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome. In the early days of the pandemic, due to poor knowledge of the disease and a shortage of medical resources, many infected patients were found to have developed severe lung injury that led to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The treatment of these patients requires special medical support, including ECMO, which is currently known to be effective. Special care is also needed after cured because of the sequelae of severe lung injury. To recognize the anesthesiologists’ efforts to improve the management of infected patients with ARDS, we have launched a BMC Anesthesiology collection, “COVID‐19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome”.
